In an age of dancing robots and the electric toothbrush, the Quarry Mountain Dead Rats are taking it back to a simpler time, where the pickin’ was fast and the banjo was king.

With fire in their bellies, these musical comrades hailing from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula bring their raw and gritty version of bluegrass kicking and hollering into the modern day.

The influence of old-time mountain-music combined with rock‘n’roll sensibilities make the Quarry Mountain Dead Rats an act that make you sit up, take notice and come back for more.

Long live the Dead Rat.

This Saturday 15th from 9.00pm at the Tiki Lounge and Bar we will see and hear two entirely different incarnations of this remarkable family of bands: First up “Ben Rogers Trio” play Gypsy jazz, Swing and Blues featuring violin virtuoso Romana Geermans. Followed by the band that has carved a trail across the face of surf guitar music around the globe “Instrumental Asylum”…..
what the world press has to say:

“…pushes the envelope of just what an instrumental surf
trio can do. A muscular, lovingly distorted guitar sound”
Greg Haymes, Times Union (Albany USA)

“…this is a band that takes no prisoners.” – Matthew Frederick, The Age (Australia)

“Instrumental dynamite” – Peter Thomas, Big Beat of the 50s (Australia)

“Huge guitar, intense energy, and very emotional” – Phil Dirt, Reverb Central (USA)

“Without a shadow of a doubt, Ben Rogers is one of the WORLDS great guitar players”- Billy Pinnell, ABC, RRR, 3AW

The “Tiki Lounge and Bar” says “Aloha!” and warmly welcomes a new tiki bar in the neighbouring suburb of Fitzroy.
The newest tiki bar to open in Melbourne, “The LuWow” in Johnson St, Fitzroy, recently opened to much fanfare and excitement from Tiki fans.
Owner Josh Collins has come to Melbourne from Perth, where he is the owner of the well known “Hula Bula”.
“Tiki Lounge and Bar” in Richmond is proud to welcome “The LuWow”,( although they have different owners of course) as its sister Melbourne” tiki bar”. At “The LuWow” in Johnson St, Fitzroy, Josh and his team have created a full-on tiki and exotica fantasy environment.

Meanwhile at the “Tiki Lounge and Bar” last night managers Dave and Dianne were presented with Tiki mugs created by artist Robbie Toth. Robbie is soon to hold an exhibition of his tiki art at the bar.
